DePaul Game Dev Events & Speakers

In addition to the working game developers/artists in the Game Dev program we also regularly bring in guest speakers from the industry to share their knowledge with students. Speakers have included Eugene Jarvis, our Game Designer in Residence, Matt Booty of Midway, Alex Seropian of Wideload, and Ernest Adams.

Quinn Dunki

Quinn Dunki

Quinn Dunki, indie game developer and Senior Engineer at Pandemic Studios, visited DePaul’s Game Dev program on Thursday, May 22nd 2008. She gave a presentation about Gate, a pc logic/puzzle game she entered in the 2008 Independent Games Festival, and also visited Joe Linhoff’s Capstone Project class to give feedback on their games. Quinn has been making games for over 20 years, the last 12 of which have been professional, including a stint at Bungie. Her engineering education and professional life have been focused almost entirely on artificial intelligence in games.

Quinn had this message for DePaul Game Dev students:

I’d like to thank the students and staff at DePaul University for their hospitality. It’s a very strong academic program, and it was an honour to be a part of it for a day. The Capstone projects are original and well executed. It’s clear that the students at DePaul have the enthusiasm, passion and drive to make games that industry is looking for. The equipment is first-rate (I wish I’d had access to that much gear in school!) and the focus on well-rounded, diverse studies will pay off well for these students in the long term. I’ll certainly give a second look to resumes that cross my desk with DePaul listed on them. Keep up the great work!

Game Jam ‘08

In April we hosted the first DePaul Game Jam, which pitted 7 teams designing games using XNA over 30 straight hours.
